"32 Bits Online's Jeff Alami interviews Dave Sifry, Chief
Technology Officer of Linuxcare, Inc. about the start of Linuxcare,
its operations, and investment news."
Dave Sifry: "This fundamentally different way of making
software--Open Source development--is a paradigm shift in software
development. In addition, Linux represents, for the first time, a
real shot at being a open standard for operating systems. Much in
the same way than TCP/IP or Ethernet is a standard and nobody owns
it, there's no vendor who owns it [Linux]. Linux has that same
potential. The potential for Linux to become as ubiquitous as
TCP/IP is a really groundshaking notion, when you start to think
about all the implications involved... What's very cool about KP
[Kleiner Perkins] is that they understand that. For us, it wasn't
the money. Because honestly, finding money wasn't the hard part. It
was finding the right set of partners that really understand the
vision of where Linux is going."
