Trinux 0.61 Released

Jun 20, 1999, 17:58 (1 Talkback[s])

Thanks to Matthew Franz for this announcement.

Trinux 0.61 is the first functional release of the new glibc2-kernel 2.2.x development track of Trinux: A Linux Security Toolkit.

Trinux 0.61 supports the latest 2.2.10 kernel and provides integrated support for common (3Com, SMC, Intel, DEC, NE2000) Ethernet chipsets as well as automatic network configuration using DHCP.

A "classic" data disk is available that provides packages for performing network mapping, vulnerability scanning, and network monitoring, although the eventual goal of Trinux-OpenSEC is to distribute customized Linux-based "security appliances" using Open Source tools.

Improvement's over 0.4x/0.5x Series:
------------------------------------

  • Smaller, modularized initial ramdisk
  • Initialization scripts reside on floppy (not in initrd) for easier customization and development
  • Fast, remote package loading using wget
  • Binary compatibility with RedHat 5.2
  • Updated versions versions of tools such as nmap, ntop, and iptraf
  • New tools such as ipchains, cgichk, hping, and mns

Trinux disk images are available on the Trinux FTP server under /pub/trinux/images/devel/0.61/ and at Trinux Mirrors such as SunSITE and kernel.org.
