ZDNet: Burlington Coat Factory wears Linux well

"The Burlington, N.J., retail clothing company is an early adopter and wholehearted embracer of Linux, although [CIO Mike] Prince calls his adoption of the open source OS 'conservative,' saying the software is widely available, the hardware is commodity and the support is ubiquitous."

"Burlington Coat Factory was turned on to Linux by summer interns, who wanted to use it on their workstations. Soon, the entire engineering department was requesting Linux workstations."

"Linux is in 32 stores today with a wireless IP application being deployed in those stores as well, Prince said. For productivity, the company chose Applix Inc.'s Applixware. Prince said users overcame their fears of working with something other than Microsoft Office relatively quickly. He hopes to have the entire Linux rollout done by October 1."
