(Other stories by Patrick Lambert)

"The GNU Midnight Commander is a directory browser/file manager for Unix and Linux systems. It was created by Miguel de Icaza and many others. One small note I'd like to make is that MC is a very good example of how world wide the open source movement is. Main developers for MC come from Mexico, the USA, Germany, Taïwan, Italy, Spain, and many other countries."

"In this short article I just want to introduce you to this fabulous program. It is a console program, but it has been made X aware, and the mouse will be available if you run MC in an Xterm inside of X. In the next sections I will show you the visual aspect of the program, the various commands in the file manager, the text editor, text viewer and the Virtual FS feature. If you don't have MC installed, you can get it from your Linux CD-ROM. If you do, launch it with the 'mc' command."
