"Oracle Corp. announced Friday it will join the Project Monterey effort spearheaded by IBM."

"Monterey is a 64-bit Unix designed to run on Intel Corp.'s upcoming 64-bit Itanium processor platform. Intel and the Santa Cruz Operation are also spearheading the Monterey effort, which many observers believe will in some part "reunify" Unix on 64-bit computers."

"Oracle announced it will treat Monterey as a "tier one" platform, meaning it will port all of its software to Monterey, leading off with the Oracle Internet Directory."
