"Aside from financing, Thompson says his main goal is to evangelize and build critical mass within the open source community. It's an uphill climb, he admits. Although open source and free software proponents have no problem with people making money off their own labor, successful development projects such as Linux have highly evolved social structures that might get tainted by the sudden infusion of filthy lucre."
