TechWeb: S3, Transmeta To Create Linux Net Devices

"S3 on Thursday announced plans to work with start-up Transmeta to build Internet appliances based on the Crusoe microprocessor."

"The move comes one day after Transmeta presented details about its Crusoe processor, which the company said is capable of translating Intel's x86 instructions into native code for dramatically improved battery life and system speeds."

"S3 said it will collaborate with Santa Clara, Calif.-based Transmeta to target x86-compatible consumer systems based on Linux software for the Internet. Transmeta officials said they are impressed with S3's plans."
