Upside: Voice Technology [Lernout & Hauspie] Stock Up After Demonstration

"The stock of Belgian speech technology company Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV (LHSP.O) soared Monday after it demonstrated new products, including a Linux-based hand-held device that uses voice commands for Internet applications.

Lernout stock jumped 18-9/16 to close at 79-3/16.

At the Demo 2000 technology conference in Indian Wells, Calif., L&H showed a prototype hand-held device that has a large vocabulary continuous speech dictation engine for sending and receiving e-mail, surfing the Web and conduct e-commerce transactions. It showed how its technology can be used for other wireless or hand-held devices."
