At CeBIT in Hannover, IBM will show Linux running on a S/390
mainframe. This is from IBM's demo description:
For S/390, we show Linux for S/390 running on a S/390
Parallel Enterprise Server G6. You will see two demonstrations with
Linux for S/390:
1.) Linux on S/390 as a network station server: A diskless
network station is booting from Linux for S/390 and runs the Gnome
Desktop environment and additional applications.
2.) "Linux/390 Radio Station": A streaming server running on
Linux for S/390 sends music song files in MP3 format to clients
through the network. Information about the actual song is provided
via the Apache Web Server running on the same Linux for S/390
server. In order to retrieve even more detailed information about
the songs, we show how Linux for S/390 can connect via sockets to a
high-performance DB2 database running in a different LPAR on
OS/390.
