"Copyleft donates $10,000 to the Electronic Frontier
Foundation to support the DVD lawsuit defense fund."
"Copyleft, an open source company that has made a significant
effort to support the free software community with financial
contributions, announced a donation of $10,000 to support the
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). The donation will aid the
legal defense that the EFF is mounting in response to lawsuits by
the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the DVD Copy
Control Association (DVD CCA). The lawsuits, directed at open
source developers and web sites around the world, aim to suppress
the source code that would allow DVD movies to be played on the
Linux operating system."
"The majority of the donation is a result of the popularity of
Copyleft's newest T-shirt, which Copyleft produced specifically to
help support the EFF. Copyleft pledged to donate $4 from each
shirt, and to date over 2000 of these shirts have been ordered.
These T-shirts were worn outside the Santa Clara courthouse during
the preliminary court hearings, and subsequently submitted by the
DVD CCA plaintiff attorney as evidence."
