SJ Mercury/AP: Microsoft and Compaq team up to wire MSN service into PCs

"Microsoft Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. plan to hard-wire The Microsoft Network Internet service into the Compaq Presario line of personal computers."

"Those computers will have special keyboard buttons and additional software that will allow users to quickly access the Internet through MSN."

"Compaq will also combine its online service with MSN, the company said in a statement. MSN sign-up will also be combined with Compaq's registration process for new PCs, speeding up the process of getting Internet access."

"The two companies will also jointly develop future Internet products."
