LinuxPR: Omnis Studio 2.4 makes learning 4GL and OO easier
Mar 31, 2000, 15:00 (0 Talkback[s])
"Omnis Software has announced the release of Omnis Studio 2.4,
the latest version of their powerful and popular 4GL rapid
application development program. This most recent release
incorporates a number of new features specifically designed to
aid the learning of 4GLs and object oriented programming."
"Omnis Studio includes an Application Builder which can build
complete libraries from pre-installed and modifiable data sets in
just a few minutes. These applications can either take advantage of
the internal database or connect to external databases such as
Oracle, DB2 or MySQL. In addition, the Application Builder allows
you to take advantage of the unique Web ClientTM
technology and incorporate web functionality into the program in
moments. Once completed, the application has two real benefits for
students. Firstly, it generates an html report detailing the
various classes and methods used in building the application.
Secondly, the resultant library is open source, so all of the
components can be opened, studied and modified to find out how they
are constructed."
"For experienced developers, the Application Builder can serve
as a short cut to putting together the basics of a much more
sophisticated business solution. Again, because it is open source,
the developer can open the library and modify it to exactly reflect
their needs."
