(Other stories by Paula Rooney)

"Linux ISV Applix Inc. on Monday unveiled a spin-off that develops and supports an open-source Linux application suite and serves it up for ASPs."

"Applix Anywhere Office, which will be rebranded under the VistaSource label, will be available for ASPs in May, company executives said. With that, customers will be able to access Applix Anyware.com technology from ASPs for application purchase, development and use."

"It will compete squarely with Sun Microsystems Inc.'s StarOffice/StarPortal initiative, which is scheduled to be available in the fourth quarter of this year. VistaSource's Office 5 also will compete with other vendors of desktop office suites such as Corel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. and hosted office applications such as Microsoft Office Online, VistaSource executives said."
