ZDNet/Reuters: Sony picks Psion over MS, Palm

"Psion Plc said on Wednesday Sony Corp would license its software for mobile gadgets, a major coup for the UK handheld computer maker and its allies in their fight for dominance in the market."

"Psion shares jumped nearly 10 percent on news the Japanese electronics giant would use the operating platform of Symbian, the consortium grouping Psion with mobile phone makers Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola."

"The deal will raise Symbian's profile in the United States, where many analysts see the portable device battle as a fight between Palm and Microsoft."
