"IBM, the world's largest computer company, said it has developed a breakthrough technology that allows its computers to run e-business software written for the free Linux operating system, a growing competitor to Microsoft's Windows operating systems, without actually using the system...."

"IBM's technology would allow large companies using IBM's AIX operating system to take advantage of a growing number of Linux based e-business applications without having to install Linux. The software will be tested by a select group of customers later this year before commercial introduction in early 2001...."

"Right now, scalability is an issue with Linux. But by running Linux applications on AIX, our customers can run those business applications without worrying about the weaknesses in Linux," Mr Wladawsky-Berger said."
