"While lovers of KDE, GNOME and other Linux desktop environments wait to see which project bobbles to the top of the Open Source heap, other candidates for desktop of the year languish in obscurity, according to one user."

"Hugh Fegely, a Web developer for Manassas, Va.-based TriMoons.com, is new to the Linux game but already worries that XFce, his personal favorite desktop environment, is being overlooked by users who prefer the Windows-like quality of KDE or GNOME."

"Fegely may be new to Linux, but he has plunged wholeheartedly into his new avocation. "Although I still consider myself much the neophyte/newbie when it comes to Linux, I have been running it solely as my home operating system (OS) for about 15 months now," Fegely says. "I recently even expanded my home network to have one box as a dedicated server (Red Hat 6.2 loaded) and my personal workstation running Mandrake 7.02."

"Fegely's desktop preference emerged early on in his Linux explorations. "For the past year (almost to the day) I have been running the XFce desktop environment."
