Ottawa Citizen: Corel deal gives Microsoft inside track on Linux

"The answer, according to detailed filings with U.S. regulators, appears that Corel has become the insurance policy that Microsoft needs to ensure it won't be left behind if the Linux operating system takes off."

"Much of the agreement ensures that Corel's Linux developers will make future Microsoft products work on Linux. Corel spokesperson Anne Vis said yesterday that Microsoft 'recognizes the excellent Linux developers that Corel has.'"

"Microsoft has long poo-pooed suggestions the free-wheeling and durable Linux platform is a significant threat to its proprietary Windows platform."
