"Given the proliferation of Linux software (as any pass through
SourceForge or the CDs in a modern Linux distribution
demonstrates), it's surprising to find one application category for
which there appears to be no entry, none at all.
"We're talking about a console menu application. It is
potentially so useful that it's surprising that one doesn't
exist.
"As distributions increasingly make modifications to core
subsystems such as XFree86, users who perform interim upgrades
(even, in one case reported to us, through use of the
distribution's own automatic upgrade service) are more likely to
find themselves unable to open a graphical desktop, sometimes even
to log in at all, if the error takes place before xdm/kdm/gdm
starts..."
