"NEC Corp said it aims to introduce Linux as an operation system
in its third-generation (3G) mobile phone handsets.
"Akira Yoshimoto, NEC's assistant general manager at a mobile
terminal business unit, said the company's mobile phone handsets
will adopt the Linux OS developed by MontaVista Software Inc of the
United States, which is a leading company for embedded Linux. This
is the first time that NEC disclosed that it is working on Linux
for a mobile phone OS of its own, although it has been rumored that
it may introduce Linux..."
