"LinuxHardware.org: Hello Mike. Thank you for taking the time to sit down and answer some of our questions about your recently released Majesty Gold Linux port. To start off, why not give us a bit of your own personal background in the Linux gaming scene?

"Mike Phillips: I started using Linux about the time the 1.0 kernel came out, and at the time I kept a DOS partition around to play Doom, Civilization, and Ultima 7. I was very happy when Dave Taylor built Linux binaries of Doom...

"I dabbled in interactive fiction (complete with a pathetic entry into the 1995 IF competition), and I brought Linux to the job I had at the time. I continued to track things like the Quake ports, but I really wasn't playing much.

"Until 1999, when I saw the news that there was a Linux porting company out there bringing Civilization: Call to Power to Linux. I snapped up a copy when it showed up at the local EB, and I started picking up their titles. I ended up in the EUS beta, and later was invited into the HG2 beta, and Sam Lantinga e-mailed me about Loki and testing and stuff. My company had just had a round of layoffs, and while I was now a programmer, the idea intrigued me. I mean, Linux. And games..."
