"There are more than 1.1 million developers in North America spending at least some of their time working on Open Source development projects, according to Evans Data Corporation's new North American Developer Population Study.

"'The Population Study is a breakthrough survey for Evans Data because for the first time we're able to estimate the actual number of professional software developers in North America who spend time working with different architectures, technologies, languages and development tools. For example, EDC is the first organization to estimate that 1.1 million developers spend some of their time working on open source development projects,' said Brian Cooper, Evans' research director. 'The value in this survey is the capability of organizations to accurately estimate the size of their target markets before rolling out new products and services...'
