"I finished up this issue while attending the Open Source GIS
Conference 2004 & Second Annual MapServer User Meeting in
Ottawa, Canada. Before delving into what I saw in the first day of
the conference, I wanted to 'check in' on open source software on
the whole. Just my luck, Wired Magazine has compiled an interesting
series of articles about the 'The Free & The Unfree,' what it
calls 'a 10-page special... on the global battle between liberty
and control.'
"Graphics (all pdfs) provide an atlas of piracy, discussions of
file sharing, intellectual property as it relates to medicinal
drugs, and the distribution of genetically modified seeds. There's
also a section titled 'Open Source Everywhere.' That's where I'd
like to focus..."
