"Thanks to the marriage of open source and Java in Sleepycat's
new pure-Java version of Berkeley DB, many may reconsider whether
they need to use a relational database where simple data structures
will suffice, according to Alex Karasulu, technical lead for the
Apache Directory Project. The project is an attempt to centralize
naming and directory needs at the Apache Software Foundation.
