"As a long time musician, or so I like to call myself, and a
free software enthusiast, I have personally found Audacity to be an
indispensable tool for mastering mixes. Many other musicians use it
to record as well, and many other people use it for a variety of
uses, including deploying it into public radio stations, restoring
LPs for CD-burning, and more. Audacity has been in continuous
development since 1990 and is a multi-track recorder, mixer, wave
form visualization tool, and editor all rolled into one. It's the
Free Software equivalent of Protools, Soundforge, and Cakewalk,
albeit without the midi portion of any of those programs.
