PR: Terra Soft Launches Yellow Dog Linux v4.0 RC1

Terra Soft Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce delivery of Yellow Dog Linux v4.0 RC1 through YDL.net Enhanced accounts.

Owen Stampflee, lead Yellow Dog developer states, "Finally." The rest of the Terra Soft staff echoes his sentiment.

The "RC1" status denotes v4.0 as not quite ready for glass-master or use on mission critical systems. However, few issues remain and their level of importance is minor. YDL.net Enhanced users may refer to the provided README for more information.

Yellow Dog Linux v4.0 offers an incredible graphical interface with both KDE 3.2.2 and GNOME 2.6.0 desktops. Terra Soft's graphic designer Jake Fedie has prepared an all new presentation for both the Installer and post-install desktop environment. Included with v4.0 are OpenOffice 1.1.1, Rhythmbox 0.8.3, Mozilla 1.6 and development tools glibc 2.3.3 and gcc 3.3.3 built upon the 32-bit kernel 2.6.7.

Tested hardware includes G3 iBooks, Blue & Whites, and iMacs, G4 PowerBooks and Power Macs, and G5 Power Macs. The Terra Soft beta-test community is hard at work with RC1 to verify a full matrix of Apple systems. Preliminary support for the Netgear WG511 54Mb PCMCIA wi-fi card is made possible via www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/solutions/ydl_4.0/.
