"A Sept. 13 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, should make it easier for CIOs to avoid patent-infringement suits by software companies.

"The decision in the case Knorr-Bremse Systeme vs. Dana Corp. and Haldex Brake Products reversed a longtime precedent that presumed a company was guilty of violating a patent unless its lawyer filed a letter certifying its innocence..."
