"61 EU members of parliament from 13 countries led by the Polish
ex-prime minister Jerzy Buzek are demanding that the legislative
process on the controversial directive on the patentability of
'computer-implemented inventions' begin again from scratch. They
have filed a motion for a resolution to this effect which calls
upon the EU Commission to rerefer its directive proposal to the
European Parliament, thereby taking anew the first step in the
legislative process. One of the reason for their move cited by the
members of the EU parliament is the fact that elections to the
parliament took place in June 2004. Many current representatives of
the people had thus not been able to participate in the first
reading of the draft directive in September 2003..."
