"Commitment to customer dissatisfaction
"So what exactly happened to make me frustrated enough to write
this? Well, this year I upgraded my main Debian system from "Etch"
to "Lenny". Of course, I did this to take advantage of new and
improved packages (and they are there — much of this
experience was positive). Sadly, this upgrade also broke a lot of
stuff.
"I didn't contact these developers and I'm not going to name
names (of course I can't avoid mentioning the package names),
because there's really no point — I know and you know that
these attitudes are endemic throughout our whole community, so it'd
be unfair to single-out these three people. I know there's not much
point in trying to talk these particular packagers around to my way
of thinking, because I've already read the transcripts of others on
the same quixotic mission. No dice. Clearly these particular folks
are committed to their decisions, no matter how bad I think they
were."
