New IBM software products, available later this year, will provide high-speed connections between Linux applications and S/390 data, transaction, and messaging services; data management and web-serving capabilities for Linux applications; Java; and Tivoli management support."

"Among the planned lineup of IBM software to support Linux for the S/390 server are:

  • IBM e-business Enterprise Connectors. These gateways provide easy access from Linux applications to applications and data running on S/390 enterprise host operating systems, including OS/390, VM and VSE. The connectors will include:
    -- DB2 Connect
    -- IMS Connect
    -- MQSeries Client for Java
    -- CICS Transaction Gateway
  • IBM DB2 Universal Database. The foundation for tens of thousands of e- business applications, DB2 Universal Database is the first and only database to fully integrate Web, business intelligence and content management capabilities. It combines the speed required for Internet searching with the scalability, performance and availability of a powerful relational database.
  • IBM WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition, with Java 2 support. WebSphere is the industry's leading Web application software platform. The Advanced Edition is a high-performance system capable of running web applications that deliver thousands of business transactions per second on the S/390 platform. It enables easy integration of existing resources from multiple systems into a single, logical application.
  • Tivoli Framework end-point support, including software distribution, security management, and Tivoli inventory capabilities."
