FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paktronix Systems Announces Linux VPN with Hardware Encryption

OMAHA, NE - March 15, 1999 Paktronix Systems announced today the availability of a Linux based IPSec VPN solution. The Paktronix Systems IPSec VPN connects multiple networks together across the Internet at speeds up to DS-3 (45Mbps).

Features:

Hardware IPSec Engine All IPSec functions, including 3DES encryption, are done in hardware. The CPU of the firewall system is completely free to deal with firewall and advanced security functions. The IPSec hardware is not directly connected to any physical network thus providing maximal protection and management of the VPN data streams.

Exportable 3DES Hardware The hardware IPSec solution we use is exportable. Please contact us if you are interested in obtaining Linux VPN IPSec solutions for export at this address: international@paktronix.com

Advanced Routing and Filtering Structures The Linux 2.2 kernel provides full RFC compliance for all network routing functions. We can route by source address, tag packets for special routing treatment, utilize multiple default routes, perform NAT based on packet header criteria, and provide stable auto-loadbalance and failover routing capabilities. Controlling the routing structure allows decisions on VPN paths to be made without involving the IPSec card. VPN structures can be enabled for only designated addresses and networks without any overhead within the IPSec protocols.

Transparent Integration Paktronix Systems Firewalls with IPSec VPN still retain full firewall functionality. The VPN subsystem integrates so transparently that the VPN can be enabled, disabled, or modified during runtime operation without any effect on the firewall operation. This is due to the modular design of the Paktronix Systems Firewall. More information can be found at http://www.paktronix.com.

Pricing and Availability
The Paktronix Systems VPN is available immediately and is priced at $5,500 to $15,000 depending on your configuration requirements.
