IT-Director: Apache pushes the open source frontierJul 02, 1999, 06:58 (0 Talkback[s])
"The newly created Apache Software Foundation is incorporated, although non-profit and membership based. It will offer legal, financial and organisational structure to Apache projects. Membership is by invitation, and Apache officials say that this will be based on technical contributions. The best known project is the Apache HTTP server, but the group is also involved in other developments. These include Jakarta, a server side Java system that also involves Sun, IBM and Oracle.
"Board members reflect the growing involvement of major commercial interests in the open source movement. Apache co-founder Roy Fielding joins representatives from IBM, O'Reilly and Covalent, along with others."
