"If you consider that it is not very difficult to port or even natively run linux applications on BSD systems, you now have a broad new market for linux based applications. By shifting to BSD, Apple will obviously be making BSD compatible code. Considering how easy it is to port from BSD to linux for the PowerPC, it looks like the Linuxppc community will now have a steady stream of BSD apps coming."
"I think that Apple will open up the code for just enough of the system which is responsible for overall system security, scalability, and kernel issues. The User interface will definitely remain closed. I guess that should not surprise us based on how apple feels about intellectual property as it relates to look and feel of the operating system. New Competition for Mac Operating Systems."
