(Other stories by Jim Hu)

"Netscape Communications today said it will release a test version of a long overdue Web browser update within the next 25 days as the company battles to regain market share lost to Microsoft."

"In addition, Netscape said IBM, Intel, Liberate, NetObjects, Nokia, Red Hat and Sun Microsystems will support its Gecko technology to develop new software and hardware products."

"Gecko is the open-source browser technology developed by Mozilla.org, a group founded by Netscape to work on open-source browser projects. It uses Extensible User Interface Language (XUL), a new technology for creating user interfaces with Web programming languages rather than with computer coding languages."
