TheLinuxGurus.org: GTK+/Gnome Application Development

Mar 29, 2000, 14:31 (0 Talkback[s])

[ Thanks to David Culp for this link. ]

"GTK+ and Gnome are growing in popularity and for good reason. GTK+ is a free GUI library released under the GPL and Gnome is growing better and more stable by the day. GTK for those that do not know is the Gimp Tool Kit and is a package of tools to allow easy GUI development under X Windows."

"There is actually quite a bit of information available to learn GTK+ or Gnome programming. One of the best ways is to read the source of available programs. Since both Gnome and GTK+ are released under the GPL the source for both is available. However, many people (me included) do not like to read off a computer screen or would rather have a reference book available to supplement online documentation."

"This book attempts to explain the process of coding a Gnome application using GTK+, the Gnome libraries and other GNU tools. It does a good job but be warned, the text and the examples are not for beginners! You must know C and you should be pretty familiar with it. A bit of knowledge of GTK+ to begin with would also be good."
