Today the dutch firm Stone IT has suddenly obtained the domain name Linux.nl. This has caused turmoil in the dutch Open Source community, that has tried for a long time to get the name assigned to a non-profit organisation such as the VOSN or one of the many Linux user groups and organisations in the Netherlands.
"Earning money with Open Source is not dirty", said a VOSN spokesman, "but Open Source is not just about getting; it is about giving as wel. What Stone IT has obtained for itself with the name 'Linux' is very clear; it is not so clear what it will give back to the dutch and the international Linux community".
A reaction from Stone IT has not yet been forthcoming.
