To insure the highest degree of objectivity in computer hardware evaluations, this column proposes an open-source project to develop benchmarking tools and their associated methodologies...."

"To insure that "all hands are above the table" we would like to propose a comprehensive open-source benchmarking project. The goal of this project would be to provide a complete application level benchmark suite as well as an extensive synthetic benchmark suite and related source code."

"Armed with such benchmarks, much of the doubt underlying hardware evaluations would be removed. With the source code readily available these benchmarks can be rapidly refined to insure utmost reliability."
