The transfig package shipped in 6.2 does not understand options that xfig passes. transfig version 3.2.3 understands these options and enables eps exporting.

4. Solution:

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filename]

where filename is the name of the RPM.
