BW: PowerCrypt Encryption Accelerator Endorsed by OpenBSD

May 03, 2000, 06:53 (0 Talkback[s])

"Global Technologies announced that the PowerCrypt encryption accelerator has been endorsed by OpenBSD (www.openbsd.com). Kernel-level support for PowerCrypt was developed by OpenBSD, with device drivers and IPSec code written by members of the OpenBSD community."

"PowerCrypt is an intelligent, bus-mastering PCI board that incorporates the Hi/fn 7751 chip. It is a dedicated, high-speed hardware resource for acceleration of processor-intensive functions, such as encryption and compression for Internet security devices and applications. PowerCrypt provides full hardware support for the complete IPSec protocol stack, including DES, 3DES, SHA-1, and MD5, as well as RC4 encryption, and LZS and MPPC data compression schemes."
