S390.IBM.com: Linux for S/390 Installfest

May 30, 2000, 20:18 (0 Talkback[s])

[ Thanks to Chris for this link. ]

"We want to hold an Install Fest to help you install Linux for S/390 on your machine. In Germany a "Fest" is where we get together to have a good time. We will guide you and other customers step by step through the whole installation process. We will also setup the Apache Web Server and want to advise you on how to create a user profile. Of particular interest will be the installation of a precompiled RPM package like the "THE" packed which emulates the "XEDIT" editor."

"First we will ship you complete documentation, the installation CD-ROM and some party material. You will be surprised! We will use a beta code distribution of SuSE or TurboLinux. You have to prepare yourself and your machine with the documentation that we provide to ensure all participants start at the same level. The party language will be English."

"The Install Fest consists of multiple telephone conferences with each of them with a certain number of customers. The whole party will be limited to 500 customers. If a difficult problem occurs during a particular installation we will take this customer offline and call him directly on a second line to get him back to the level of the rest of the group. The whole Install Fest is free of charge. We will send you the material and we will inform you how the conference call works."
