TechWeb: Linuxcare To Fine Tune Linux For ThinkpadsJun 09, 2000, 22:06 (5 Talkback[s])(Other stories by Stuart Glascock) "Linux services company Linuxcare has forged a deal with IBM to customize Caldera's OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 for two new IBM Thinkpads, potentially raising the viability of the alternative operating system in the mainstream notebook marketplace." "Under the deal, Linuxcare, San Francisco, will optimize and certify the Caldera build and provide technical support. The Thinkpads will be pre-loaded with Caldera, but users can opt for other distributions, including Red Hat, SuSE or TurboLinux." "The arrangement, which company officials said was worth at least $100,000, is a significant shot in the arm for Linuxcare, which has suffered from the general downturn afflicting Linux companies. In addition, Linuxcare has recently undergone a management shakeup, is searching for a new CEO, and has delayed a planned initial public offering under the symbol LXCR." Related Stories:
