PRNewswire: Lineo Provides Compatibility Libraries for Legacy Real Time Operating System Code

Jun 27, 2000, 21:52 (0 Talkback[s])

"Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of embedded Linux system software, today announced compatibility libraries for VxWorks and pSOS. Code-named "Golden Gate," these compatibility libraries provide OEMs with a way to recompile applications developed on these platforms to run on Embedix Linux, Lineo's embedded software."

"By using Golden Gate, OEMs preserve the intellectual property and financial investment made in the development of the application when the proprietary OS company discontinues development and support for the operating system. Additionally, by porting applications to Embedix, customers can take advantage of all the Linux features, including the significantly lower cost of royalties because they are no longer running the proprietary operating system."

"As RTOS companies' strategies change and evolve, many OEMs are concerned about preserving the investments they have made in developing custom applications around these OSs," said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo, Inc. "Lineo is providing alternatives for customers that don't want to start over to build a new code base for the same application and want to take advantage of Linux."
