GNULinux.com: Weathering Stormix

Jun 29, 2000, 15:55 (8 Talkback[s])

[ Thanks to Beopen for this link. ]

"After fielding a few questions from our visitors about Storm Linux we decided to take a closer look. This is not so much a review of the distribution as it is a review of our experience. We encountered a few bumps along the way and in the end decided to scrap the install. But, we still think Storm Linux is worth checking out."

"Stormix has certainly succeeded (assuming your SCSI card doesn't stop the install before it starts :> ) in making their distro easy to install. ...if you're a newbie and want to install Stormix, do yourself a favor by learning about partitioning your drive for Linux before you begin. ... Stormix uses a graphical interface for setting up and configuring LILO. Again, nothing earth shattering here but it does make the process easier for Newbies."

"So the bottom line here is that Storm Linux does seem to be a distro worth a newbie's attention but is not ready for a full review (with our hardware at least). Experienced Linux users will probably be more satisfied with Debian (from which Storm Linux is derived). If Stormix can resolve these problem areas we will probably recommend it more confidently to our visitors."
