LinuxMall.com: National Semiconductor Goes a-Courting--LinuxJul 13, 2000, 17:50 (1 Talkback[s])(Other stories by Michelle Head) [ Thanks to mhead for this link. ] "National Semiconductor is enjoying the fruits of Linux business polygamy. Lineo and National Semiconductor have agreed to co-develop Linux-based software development kits for the Information Appliance (IA) market, according to a Lineo company release. These reference platforms will be developed using Embedix, Lineo's embedded Linux software, and will be targeting National's set-top box markets and WebPAD, National Semiconductor's portable Web access device." "But Lineo is far from being the only Linux-related company currently enjoying a partnership with National. In keeping with its perception of a "growing convergence of computing technologies with communications and consumer electronics to meet the rising demand for information access," National has courted a string of Linux companies starting in the fall of 1999, according to a company release." "Augsburg, Germany-based Informatec AG, an Internet-based software product manufacturer, is one of those companies. In an agreement with National announced in September, 1999, Informatec took on the development of Linux-based firmware to port to National's set-top box and thin-client platforms." Related Stories:
