tcl/tk.com: Join the OpenTcl Movement!

Aug 14, 2000, 15:13 (0 Talkback[s])
(Other stories by Michael McLennan)

"A revolution is sweeping the world of Tcl/Tk, and we want you to be part of it! A few weeks ago, John Ousterhout announced his plans to involve the community in core development. Tcl/Tk has always been available as Open Source, but it will now be developed as a true Open Source project!"

"I've been involved with Tcl/Tk for many years, and when I first read his proposal, I thought "What's the catch?" Cynical, maybe, but John has a reputation for his tight control over the Tcl/Tk internals. After talking with John, I've decided that there is no catch. John is anxious for Ajuba to be involved in this new process, and he has offered people and other resources. But he realizes that Tcl/Tk is now so widely used and so important that it really belongs to all of us. So he has opened the process in a way that lets everyone participate!"

"For starters, John has asked us, as a community, to appoint the members of a new Tcl/Tk Core Development Team. This team will fix bugs, add features, and act as evangelists within the community, helping to bring more people into the development process."
