"This month we talk with Chris Schlaeger, senior manager of development with SuSE. Mr. Schlaeger is responsible for the coordination of SuSE's product development process. This includes developments like YaST/Sax as well as maintenance of the 2400 open source packages. He also develops code for the K Desktop Environment in his spare time."

"Q: ...What is SuSE's Linux Labs program, and how has it influenced development?"

"A:SuSE has quite a number of developers of Open Source projects on their payroll. The projects include the Linux kernel, ISDN, ALSA, glibc, XF86, KDE and many others. These developers simply continue the work on their project and don't have to worry about paying their rent. That way we have secured the development of several projects that might have been discontinued due to lack of time of the developers after graduating."
