"I know almost nobody uses floppies anymore but if you happen to
be in a situation where you have to this will help you. I'm talking
about the mtools which is usually packed with every distribution of
Linux. Mtools is a package of tools that help you manage
floppies, ZIPs, and Jazz. These tools give you the capabilities of
reading and writing to the drive without having the need to mount
them. This is really a time saver, for instance you are
looking for a particular file and you have 15 floppies to look
through. Instead of having to mount each floppy and then looking
for the file you can use mdir (a utility that is included with
mtools), which lists all the files in each floppy without the need
to mount."
