Is Linux Mandrake 7.2 Officially Released? Kinda Sorta

Oct 29, 2000, 12:13 (5 Talkback[s])

[ Thanks to Markus Sulzbacher for this link. ]

Is Linux-Mandrake 7.2 officially released or not? If you look here, you'll find Linux-Mandrake 7.2 available for download (as first reported on Linuxnewbie). However, the main Linux-Mandrake Web site still reports that version 7.1 is still the most current. So what gives?

Here's the situation: we've been told that the "official" release has been delayed by a week, but that 7.2 was quietly being uploaded to all the mirror download sites (like this one). And indeed, if you check out the download sites, you'll find that Linux-Mandrake 7.2 is available for download. So rip away!

Here's some more information about the goodies you'll find in Linux-Mandrake 7.2 (as excerpted from the Linux-Mandrake Web site):

  • KDE 2.0 is included
  • XFree86 4.01 is now installed by default (unless not supported by your video card)
  • Installation: new options have been added such as installation sizes
  • Internet Access Configuration Draknet assistant allows you to easily configure your modem, ISDN, DSL or Cable connection
  • Internet Access Sharing: DrakeGateway is a new wizard that easily configures a Linux box to server as a personal router and firewall for sharing Internet access with other computers on a local network
  • PrintingCUPS/QtCUPS is now the default selection and replaces lpr
  • HardDrake has been greatly improved and supports a larger hardware base
  • RPMDrake has been enhanced to be easier and more powerful to use
  • MandrakeUpdate now supports package installation from Cooker and has been refined
  • DrakConf control panel has been redesigned with ease of use in mind
  • Aurora will give you a graphical interface for the interactive boot (only available for framebuffer compatible cards
