LinuxPR: E-Democracy Project at FreeDevelopers.net gets startedOct 31, 2000, 19:55 (1 Talkback[s])
"Dr. Marilyn Davis, who invented, designed and implemented eVote(tm) has joined FreeDevelopers as the project leader for its e-Democracy software development project."
"Dr. Davis has worked on e-Democracy for over 12 years developing eVote(tm) and has also authored a number of articles and reports on how information technology can improve democracy worldwide, including "Features for Freedom" (an invited talk given at the First European Conference on Voting and Rating on the Internet), "Alternative Ballot Techniques" (Hearing before the Subcommittee on Elections of the Committee on House Administration, House of Representatives, One Hundred and Third Congress, Second Session, September 22, 1994), and "On Electronic Democracy and Its Profound Implications" (EFFector Online, the online magazine of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Sept. 11, 1992)."
"The objective of the project is to have e-voting free software ready for the next presidential election in 2004. Currently, proprietary systems are being deployed for that purpose and FreeDevelopers wants to remedy that situation, because secret code has no legitimate place in free, democratic elections. The software will also be used by FreeDevelopers for its own democratic processes and shared with the rest of the world as free software."
