"David Bucknell has written a lengthy description on The Story Behind Open Source Software. It is intended to be a good general introduction to the topic for non-technical, intelligent readers. We think it is well-written and should be very useful in explaining why we think open source/free software is important to the world beyond our community.

"On May 7 Schoolforge sent this press release rebutting Microsoft's published position on donating used computers to schools out to the technical and general press. It received moderate attention in the Linux community. However, two of the references in the press release's footnotes attracted major attention.

"The first was Microsoft Peru's letter taking issue with a proposed new Peruvian law mandating the use of free software by government agencies, and Congressman Dr. Edgar David Villanueva Nuñez's response to it. Dr. Villanueva's letter is a masterpiece of clear logical thinking and rational argument. Excerpting it cannot do it justice; it must be read in its entirety..."
