Opera Pairs Up with Mandrake Linux

Jul 04, 2002, 16:35 (46 Talkback[s])

Opera Software ASA has announced that Opera's Linux versions will be distributed with Mandrake Linux, made by MandrakeSoft.

This announcement follows yesterday's similar statement regarding the release of Opera for Linux within the SuSE Linux distrbution.

In the press release statement was this commentary from the company: "As an alternative desktop operating system, Linux suffered for a long time from lacking a state-of-the-art Web browser," said Dean Kakridas, VP desktop products. "By focusing on providing the very latest in browser technology to Linux users, Opera has moved in and filled the void needed to make Linux a technologically advanced and user-friendly operating system. Opera's continuous insistence on a technology-centered strategy is proving successful both among users and Linux distributors."

In a separate statement, the company also specified that the version to be included in Mandrake and SuSE Linux will be the free, ad-sponsored version of the browser client.
